A Friendship Questionnaire

There are many definitions of what friendship really means
Each heart determines value in a different way it seems
Although it’s hard to put in words, the emphasis of such
One thing that can’t be questioned is the beauty of the touch

There are certain indications that I think we all might share
As decisively we figure out the qualities they bear
And in my life’s experience I’ve devised this simple test
The way that they are answered, should put your mind to rest

When you find your heart is weary and you find you need to talk
Does she say she'll be right over without looking at the clock?
If you make a bad decision does she say “I told you so”
Or remind you inconspicuously, that we fail so we may grow?

When you are not around to hear what other folks might say
Does she defend you without hesitance, or simply walk away?
Can you distinguish from the tissues, which one of you were aching?
When pain is overwhelming, was one or two hearts breaking?

Your little imperfections, does she know them? Does she care?
Does her smile come automatically when she sees you standing there?
Can you hear a sigh when mentioning that you might need a ride?
When you make a foolish comment, does she take it all in stride?

Can she finish all your sentences as though they’re incomplete?
Remember you were short on cash? Insist lunch is her treat?
Acknowledge a mistake you made, but never condescend?
Forgive you when you’ve hurt her, never bring it up again?

Does she pray for your promotion even though she’s left behind?
Show interest in a story that she’s heard a dozen times?
Spent twice as much as you agreed, on your Christmas gift this year
Does she wait until you ask for help, or does she volunteer?

Resentment and/or Jealousy; words she can define?
Will she walk with you in thunderstorms? Drink your favorite wine?
Support you when you’re right. Support you when you’re not
Understand the times your answer was that simply “I forgot”

And now the final queries, please give great consideration
