Listen to the words, as if they were your own
Someone wouldn't take the time
To share with you what's on their mind
If better left unknown

Listen to the words, think of what they're saying
Someone might be crying out
Full of heartache, grief or doubt
Hopelessly conveying

Listen to the words, and every now and then
You might have some thoughts to share
To let them know you really care
And they might smile again

If you'd listen to the words, to help somebody cope
Maybe you could make a change
Words you give them in exchange
Might offer them some hope

If we listen to the words, then we might walk away
Knowing that we did our part
To cast away a suff'ring heart
At least another day

This poem is dedicated to Becky, who always listens to my words.
