MY SPECIAL PLACE
It’s structure made of wood and glass,
simplistic by design
The elements of days gone by cast on it’s
doors of pine
Inside it safely tucked away, a heart’s
managerie
Captured moments from my past, a lifetime’s
potpourri
And through the glass and scalloped frame,
each day as I arise
I catch a glimpse of yesterdays, and pause to
visualize
Each piece I have selected, that touched my
heart some way
I stop to breathe the fragrance of my memory
bouquet
A wishing stone, a figurine, my favorite
childhood book
(Sometimes I have to get it out and take
another look)
A pair of handmade earrings and a gem from
far away
Found gleaming on a sandy shore, the waves
had cast astray
A crystal heart, ceramic urn, my mother’s
favorite vase
A tiny cup and saucer with an elegy of grace
A plate with matching candlesticks, a
beautiful display
Children’s grade school projects made of
paper, and of clay
A trinket box, a teddy bear, a candle and a
doll
My heart is filled with gladness as I think
about them all
And though the days forever gone, their
memories embraced
Sheltered now forever in this, My Special
Place
