I came across a stranger, he was sitting on the ground
People all around him yet he didn't hear a sound
His hands were rough and dirty
His unmatched shoes were worn
No buttons on his jacket, the sleeves were soiled and torn

And there inside a shopping cart was everything he had
I almost couldn't bear to look, his face was just so sad
It didn't seem to phase him that I was standing there
Wondering with sadness, why no one seemed to care

I walked away imagining the hopelessness he feels
All of his possessions in a basket on four wheels
His bed is made of cardboard, his pillow made of stone
No shelter from the weather and no place to call home

And as I turned the corner I came across this place
A line of many hundred with that same look on their face
And sitting at the tables there were many many more
Dressed just like the man I'd passed
There on the street before

I wondered if the people knew that fed them on that day
There's so much more than food they're putting on those trays
So this is for the volunteers that stand behind those lines
And show the world what love is

One Serving At A Time
