I wasn't there to watch you as
you felt the sting of pain
I didn't see you falling in the bitter cold and rain
I didn't dig the graves of those who fought against ascendance
Or hear the battle cry of those that yearned for independence
I didn't feel exhausted
as I marched with gun in hand
While fighting for our freedom all across this glory land
I didn't hear the ring of fire, I saw no blood or dying
Or screams of those in dire pain or mothers that were crying
No stabbing pangs of hunger did I feel while you were there
I didn't sleep on beds of dirt through nights of canon's glare
I could not feel you thirsting as you endlessly defended
A nation's quest for freedom that you faithfully attended
But I am here right now to say I know what you have done!
Though fifty states divided, we're a nation of just One
And I'll honor you with millions all across the USA
For that which you have given us, our Independence
Day
