She thought no one would notice as she wrote about her heart
The words just seemed so easy as she jotted down each part
The happy and the sad things, they flowed so easily
She'd put them in a place she hoped that other folks could see

And someone in another city
Thought her words were very pretty
Put his guitar on his knee
Strummed a peaceful  melody

Each day he'd look to find new words and once again he'd play
He wondered if she heard them would her heart be swept away
And suddenly he went to find new words she'd written down
He looked with disappointment for nothing could be found

And then appeared a message that the writing now is through
If anyone has read my words, my heartfelt gratitude
His heart was filled with emptiness, he loved her musings so
He couldn't hardly bear the thought that now she'd never know

That someone in another city
Thought her words were very pretty
Put his guitar on his knee
Strummed a peaceful melody

Then one day he couldn't wait and offered a request
I've written music to your words, I've done my very best
Sure would like for you to hear the songs that we have made
She cried as she was lost inside each song that he had played

As someone in another city
Thought her words were very pretty
Put his guitar on his knee
Strummed for her a peaceful melody
