Precious Gifts

Right before she’d graduate, just as she’d turned eighteen
She met that someone special, the cutest boy she’d seen
And from the day she met him, they’d spend no time apart
She grew to love him deeply, and she offered him her heart

They did all things together, what all the couples did
Except that very special thing the Bible had forbid
But finally the day arrived, their love had grown too strong
She gave to him so willingly, it didn’t seem so wrong

He said he’d always love her and forever they would share
This special love they’d come to know, so beautiful, so rare
Each night before she slumbered, a smile upon her face
Thinking of tomorrow, again in his embrace

Then one day the news came, she thought her world would end
How would she tell her mother? She’d never understand
She was shaking.  She was crying.  What would her boyfriend say?
Not once had she considered that things would end this way

And so she went to meet him, and she told him of their plight
His expression now a memory, as she saw him that last night
He was just too young he said, just beginning with his life
His plans did not include a child - he didn’t want a wife

And from this one experience, a young girl would perceive
Choose wisely what you give away and words that you believe
When offering consider, lest mourn of days forgone
The most precious gifts we tender can never be withdrawn
