I went into the office, the nurse asked me to sit down
She asked me how my day was as she handed me a gown
I was anxious, I was nervous, what would the doctor say?
And right there in that office, I closed my eyes to pray

Oh Lord don't let me die right now, I've got so much to do
And whatever life you give me Lord, I'll dedicate to you
And then he checked each part of me
My heart, my lungs, my neck
Thoroughly and slowly, not a part he didn't check

I was thinking maybe cancer, something serious was wrong
Wondering about my children, and how they'd get along
And then it all was over and he told me to get dressed
My heart was beating quickly as he studied every test

It seemed to take forever but he said I'd be okay
Wrote something on his pad and said "have a lovely day"
And oh my mind was so relieved, I breathed a calming sigh
I stopped to say a word of thanks as teardrops filled my eyes

I looked at the prescription as I sat there in that chair
It said "Nothing I can give you is as powerful as prayer"
From that day on I must confess his remedy I heeded
Faith's the best prescription and the refills are as needed
